About the role

What will you do in this role? Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the financial health and operational success of our homebuilding division. This position is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions, preparing accurate and timely financial reports, maintaining compliance with internal policies and external regulations, and collaborating cross-functionally with teams such as Land, Construction, Sales, and Procurement to ensure financial integrity across all projects.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and month-end close processes
  • Analyze job cost reports and investigate variances related to homebuilding activities (e.g., labor, materials, land development)
  • Maintain WIP schedules and monitor budget-to-actual performance across construction projects
  • Collaborate with Land and Construction teams to ensure accurate capitalization and timely expensing of development and construction costs
  • Assist with preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Support internal and external audit processes, ensuring timely and accurate responses to audit inquiries
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation entries for homebuilding assets
  • Reconcile intercompany accounts and manage allocations across business units
  • Partner with Procurement and AP to ensure timely vendor payments and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing financial insights and analysis to support decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and recommend process improvements as needed
  • Support special projects and ad-hoc financial analysis as assigned

You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
  • CPA designation (preferred)
  • 3–5+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in homebuilding, real estate development, or construction
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and job cost accounting
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with systems such as Solomon or KOVA is a plus
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work across departments

  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual in person attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly

  • Expected Salary: $70,000 - $85,000 - This position is eligible for additional performance incentives in the form of quarterly bonus opportunity.
