About the role

Position Overview:

The Senior International Trade and Transportation analyst will engage in the day-to-day international compliance and transportation operations along with strategic planning activities.  Activities may include issuing import clearance instructions to brokers, shipment and delivery scheduling, shipment document generation, freight payment processing, financial and operational analysis, logistics operational metrics and data collection, and network optimization analysis.

The International Trade and Transportation analyst will work closely with the International Logistics and Trade Compliance team that supports Supply Chain Planning, Procurement, Production, Finance, carriers, 3PLs and external service providers to support international operations in the US, EU, UK, and APAC regions.

The role will report to the Senior Manager, Logistics & Transportation. This individual will work onsite in our Acton corporate office 4 days per week.

Trade and Logistics operational responsibilities:

  • Manage daily operations for domestic and international shipments.  Includes freight booking, tracking, and coordinating delivery with third parties

  • Assist the Logistics & Transportation Manager with sourcing, developing new relationships, and on-boarding carriers to support both our domestic and international operations

  • Interaction with import brokers to determine clearance status of imports and issuance of clearance instructions

  • Support nonstandard shipping requests with creating documentation, booking freight, tracking, coordinating delivery, and providing updates to internal parties

  • Review, approve, and process freight invoices on a weekly basis.  Coordinate with Accounts Payable and 3rd Party Freight Payment provider to ensure carriers are paid in a timely manner

  • Perform adhoc reporting and analysis for internal stakeholders that provides clear guidance to drive business decisions

  • Prepare, and maintain monthly service KPIs. Develop additional KPIs and reporting where required

Transportation related financial analysis responsibilities: 

  • Assist with preparation of the monthly freight accrual for approval and submission

  • Assist the Logistics & Transportation Manager in the freight budgeting process and ensure organizations financial goals are met

  • Work with our with existing carriers and freight payment company to address payment, reimbursement, and operational issues with a focus on cost management and efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years' experience in both domestic and international shipping

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Detailed knowledge and experience managing all modes of transportation (Parcel, LTL, Truckload, Ocean, and Air Freight)

  • Advanced degree and/or certification a strong plus

  • Experience interacting with and / or managing transportation service providers, import brokers, and billing

  • Prior medical device / pharmaceutical import experience a plus

Skills/Competencies:

  • Knowledge of domestic and international shipping documents (BOL, Commercial Invoice, etc.)

  • Familiarity with domestic and international shipment terms and an understanding of how they define shipping responsibilities

  • Familiarity with CBP ACE, EEI filing, and FDA ITACS reporting data elements a plus

  • Must be comfortable communicating both internally and with third parties (carriers, sterilizers, 3PLs, forwarders, and import brokers)

  • Professional communication skills needed to build and maintain relationships with brokers and international transportation service providers

  • Strong understanding of the financial aspects of transportation

  • Familiarity with incoterms and their representation in contracts

  • Ability to function and make decisions within a fast-paced environment

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Exceptionally well organized

  • Ability to function without constant supervision

  • Comfortable with cross functional collaboration
