Academic Support Specialist- Elementary
Non-Exempt, Part Time (20-24 hours/week, dependent on case load)
Reports to: Beacon Coordinator
Education/Experience Required/Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field is required. Master’s Degree and/or Multiple Subject Credential is preferred.

Hourly Pay Range: $22.00 - $24.00/hr (The range is the expected range and is dependent on candidate qualifications.)

General Responsibilities 

This position provides targeted academic support for students in 3rd – 5th grades who have either been recommended for the Beacon Program by their teacher or have requested it. This role combines individualized and small group coaching, goal setting, teacher collaboration, and parent engagement to ensure students receive the guidance they need to thrive academically and develop independent learning skills. The specialist also oversees and supports students during after-school Homework Club.

Specific Responsibilities

• Provide weekly one-on-one and/or small group academic coaching and instruction tailored to each student’s learning profile
• Monitor academic progress and help students set and reflect on academic goals
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement effective classroom strategies
• Foster self-advocacy and academic ownership through executive functioning and learning strategies
• Maintain ongoing parent communication and provide regular progress updates
• Conduct teacher-student-parent conferences as needed to align on student support
• Ensure implementation of standardized testing accommodations as specified in IEPs
• Coordinate services with LAUSD and other external providers as needed
• Continue to grow as a professional by attending in-service professional development activities

Homework Club:

• Supervise and support the After-School Homework Club
• Provide academic assistance and a quiet, structured environment for Beacon students to complete homework
• Ensure Homework Club aligns with students' individualized goals and Beacon services

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field is required. Master’s degree and/or Multiple Subject Credential is preferred.
• 3+ years of experience working with students in elementary and/or middle school academic support settings
• Knowledge of IEP implementation, academic interventions, and executive functioning support strategies
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, teachers, and families
• Experience collaborating with public school districts (e.g., LAUSD) is highly desirable
