Book Publication Project Manager (Independent Contractor)

Contract Type: Independent Contractor (with a Per Book Fee with Payment in 3 Milestones)
Location: Fully Remote, must live in South Africa or Namibia. Must have access to high speed fibre internet.
Overview:
We seek an experienced Book Publication Project Managers to oversee the end-to-end process of publishing frontlist titles. This role is project-based, with work assigned through specific Work Orders.
Responsibilities:
As a Book Publication Project Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating and ensuring the quality of work from cover designers, copy editors, layout artists, and proofreaders. Your tasks will involve the following:
- Milestone 1: Cover Design & Manuscript Intake
- Manage the cover design process from author consultation to final approval.
- Coordinate manuscript handover, ensuring all quality standards are met before progressing to the next stage.
- Milestone 2: Pre-Editing & Copy Editing
- Oversee the copy editing process, including quality control, author feedback incorporation, and preparation for typesetting.
- Milestone 3: Typesetting, Final QC & Online Publication
- Coordinate typesetting and proofreading, ensuring all corrections are implemented across multiple proof versions.
- Finalise files, obtain approvals, and oversee the publication of the book online.
Key Deliverables:
- High-quality cover designs approved by authors and the Principal.
- Manuscripts edited and proofread to publication standards.
- Accurate and timely publication of books online, including file management and final QC.
Compensation:
The role offers a per book fee, with payments made across three milestone completions.

Requirements
Experience
- At least 3-5 years of experience in book publishing project management or a related role.
- Proven experience managing the end-to-end publication process of scholarly or academic books.
- Strong understanding of the publishing process, including cover design, copy editing, typesetting, proofreading, and online publication.
- Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders, such as authors, editors, designers, and proofreaders.
- Familiarity with digital publishing platforms and content management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
