Position Overview

Arlo is in search of an Emerging Cyber Security Subject Matter Expert and Analyst to deliver consistent, responsive, and technical Cybersecurity analysis within the emerging cybersecurity landscape. The Emerging Cyber SME/AI Analyst will play a critical role within the Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) for the Office of the Secretary of Defense. This position is responsible for analyzing and advising on emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and opportunities, particularly in the context of artificial intelligence (AI), Zero Trust (ZT), data meshing, and other advanced technologies. The SME will work closely with internal leaders, directorates, and external subject matter experts to shape cybersecurity policy, craft impact assessments, and steer the organization towards resilient cyber practices.

Work Location

Primarily remote. Will be required to come into the office for specific meetings as needed. Candidates in the Washington DC Metropolitan preferred. Travel requirements less than 10%.

Job Responsibilities and/or Success Factors

  • Support the CDAO CIO with expert knowledge of emerging cyber threats, policies, and processes.
  • Lead studies and assessments to identify gaps in the organizations cyber operations posture and recommend mitigations.
  • Foster partnerships with stakeholders across the CDAO and develop action plans.
  • Consultation with other SMEs: Engage with cybersecurity and technology SMEs across government and industry to assess emerging trends and potential threats in the evolving cyber landscape.
  • Policy Development: Lead the drafting and refinement of cybersecurity policies, impact assessments, and strategic guidance documents that influence organizational capabilities and risk postures.
  • Threat Analysis: Identify and analyze emerging cyber threats, including those related to zero trust, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies. This includes reviewing Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs), understanding evolving attack vectors, and anticipating future risks.
  • Directorate Engagement: Collaborate with leaders from various OSD directorates to gather insights on cybersecurity challenges and provide recommendations tailored to the specific needs of their operations.
  • Vendor and Technology Assessments: Attend meetings with vendors and review new cybersecurity technologies and solutions. Provide objective analysis and reports on the potential impact and value of these solutions to CDAO’s mission.
  • Data Security and System Resilience: Contribute to discussions around advanced cybersecurity architectures, such as beyond zero trust models, data meshing, and system hardening against evolving cyber threats.
  • Risk and Impact Assessment: Provide comprehensive assessments on how emerging cyber risks and technologies could affect OSD capabilities and operations, offering recommendations on mitigation strategies.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with data scientists, AI engineers, and systems architects to develop a holistic understanding of the intersection between cybersecurity, AI, and data management.

 

Education and Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a current and active Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Professional engineering degree from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 5 years of combined Joint, Interagency, OSD, or Service Headquar
