As a Medical Technologist, you will perform and interpret tests at all complexity levels. Using your understanding of the technical, procedural and problem-solving aspects and theories of laboratory testing, you will help find results to best determine patient care. A caregiver in this position works day/evening/night/weekend, 1:00pm—9:30pm or 5:30am—2:00pm.   

  

A caregiver who excels in this role, will: 

• Conduct quality laboratory testing and result reporting. 

• Accurately identify each patient specimen and testing orders and ensure results are accurate and reported in a timely manner. 

• Ensure specimen integrity and identification and resolve specimens not meeting testing criteria. 

• Identify and resolve pending specimen results from laboratory information system for assigned departments. 

• Report pertinent information to the physician, patient care area or supervisor (e.g., panic values, instrument malfunctions, delay in testing, reagent or supply depletion). 

• Note “dates opened” and “expiration dates” and use reagents and controls only to their expiration dates. 

• Maintain cleanliness, organization and stock of work area. 

• Follow troubleshooting procedures to correct deficiencies or problems as they occur with instruments and equipment. 

• Ensure instrument operation and results are reliable and perform maintenance checks, startups, and shutdowns as assigned or required
