SciAps, Inc. is a Boston area-based scientific instrument company specializing in high performance portable analytical instruments. Our mission is to provide best in class hand-held instruments to identify compounds, minerals and elements. Current product portfolio consists of LIBS, XRF and Raman technologies.
Acquiring, processing and displaying highly accurate measurements quickly based on complex computations involves significant challenges, especially in a battery-operated hand-held device. This work requires a special type of professional who has a deep interest in both Engineering and Science, and a passion for a diverse range of technologies.
We are looking for a highly motivated and technically gifted individual to join our team of world class Engineers and Scientists working in a fast-paced high technology environment.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conceive of and implement design solutions that are distinguished by performance, reliability, economy
- Maintain knowledge and skills to stay current on the latest technology and design methods
- Conduct sufficient design analysis by means of simulation and calculations to maximize the probability that the first-round proof of prototypes function as intended
- Devise and execute comprehensive Design Verification Test (DVT) Plans to prove that all design requirements are met
- Guide the work of junior engineers to foster their growth and ensure high quality work output
- Write and review of ECOs and technical reports
- Provide prompt support to Manufacturing and Service Departments as required.
- Ensure that specifications, overall design requirements, and assignments are clear and well understood before embarking on work
- Implement functional testing of designs for manufacturing
Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years’ experience as an individual contributor in the role of Electrical Design Engineer—preferably working with sensor-based instruments
- Expertise in several of the following design disciplines: digital (embedded uP and FPGA), high stability low noise analog, power supply, and firmware
- Ability to think creatively, take on a variety of technical hurdles, and arrive at efficient solutions
- Expertise in the use of analytical tools/methods and computational techniques such as those used in SPICE circuit simulations
- Experience with PCB design using e-cad design tools from schematic through layout
- Knowledge of printed circuit board fabrication and assembly
- Proven track record of successfully completing all project phases from concept to production launch
- Hands on experience in electronics prototyping, rework, assembly, and soldering
- Proficient at the use of lab instruments such as oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, DMM, and function generator
Education:
- BSEE, MS preferred, or equivalent experience and training.
