The Shady Grove Medical Center seeks to contract a Social Work Intern in a Master's program for Palliative Care who will embrace our mission to extend God's care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.

As a Social Work Intern you will:
• Initiates and implements complete, comprehensive psychosocial assessments
• Provides individual, group, and family therapies to clients and their families
• Participates in and interdisciplinary treatment team to propose and develop strategies and interventions that would promote excellent therapeutic outcomes
• Assesses and intervenes in cases of suspected/disclosed child/adult neglect/abuse issues Documents services provided and disseminates information/reports to community referral sources and agencies, i.e., DJJ, DSS, HHS, APS, CPS, LCC, etc
• Co-Ordinates with the interdisciplinary team, referral sources, and community resources aftercare and supportive services to ensure a successful discharge planning process.
• Promotes positive patient-family-community relations
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to diffuse psychotic and/or behavioral crises to ensure client, unit, and staff safety an stability
• Initiates and implements complete, comprehensive psychosocial assessments

Qualifications include:
• Masters degree program completion preferred, will work with BS in Social Work under certain parameters
• Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

Work Schedule:

Hours of internship is according to the intern's university schedule and availability.

Throughout the course of the internship, the Palliative Care Social Work Intern will learn and work directly with the Palliative Care Clinical Social Worker. This internship will provide the student with opportunities to learn and grow their clinical social work skills through the observation and implementation of palliative social work duties. The areas of palliative social work this intern will learn include psychosocial assessments, care coordination, and counseling/psychotherapy. This role specifically highlights the intersection of patient experience and quality of life discussions. Hospital patients are referred to palliative care for the following reasons: advance care planning, goals of care discussion, comfort care/end of life symptom management, and psychosocial support.

Pay Range:

$17.15 - $22.79

If the salary range is not displayed or if the position is Per Diem (with a fixed rate), salary discussions will take place during the screening process.
