Job Summary:
The Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA) is seeking an eligible student employee for the coming academic year. This student assistant will assist with the creation of digital media, photography and videography projects, website design and development, museum front desk services, and other tasks as assigned.
Applicants with only some or few preferred skills are encouraged to apply. Preference for students with an intermediate to advanced understanding of cameras, videography, social media, and editing.
Total hours and duration will be based on museum budget and student availability based on class schedule.
Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision, duties include but not limited to, Marketing/ Graphic Design:
- Assist with the development and creation of social media promotional initiatives and strategies. Identify social media marketing trends and news, and be able to socialize appropriate posts via Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and other relevant platforms.
- Support market campaigns within the scope of digital marketing, email, and printed advertising.
- Use graphic design tools in Adobe Creative Suite, to create digital marketing content. (Software such as Adobe Photoshop, In-Design, Illustrator, Lightroom etc.)
Museum Visitor Services:
- Greet guests and visitors to the museum at the Front Desks or events. Provide accurate information and directions to the public about the campus and RAFFMA exhibits and services.
- Assist with museum events and public programs which may include but are not limited to; set-up, tear-down, gallery monitoring, and clean-up. Advance notice will be provided.
- Answer and direct phone calls as needed. Be able to communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, and the public so that details are related accurately and in a timely manner.
- Guiding art activities and museum tours, leading tours of collections and exhibitions.
- Students will be expected to assist the museum staff by acting as gallery guides and monitors.
- Familiarization with the exhibitions and museum practice and etiquette. Training will be provided.
Videography/Photography Assistance:
- Edit video footage on software such as FilmMakerPro, Premiere, etc.
- Operate video camera, in the production of museum marketing material.
- Operate office cameras for museum events, exhibition documentation, and other marketing content.
- Edit photos for promotional advertisement.
- Other tasks as assigned.
- Intermediate videography and photography skills are highly preferred
Website design and development Assistance:
- Basic knowledge of website software development
- Assist with redeveloping and redesign of RAFFMA website
- Assist with creating and building new RAFFMA website
- Other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.
Required Qualifications:
- Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
- Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
- International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preference for students with a basic understanding of cameras, videography, social media, and editing.
- Preference for students interested in learning about art, art exhibition, and art education. Interest in ancient Egypt or contemporary art is encouraged.
- Student should be innovative, hardworking, and be comfortable working with the public. Some public speaking may be required depending on assigned responsibilities.
- Ideal candidate will show interest in becoming acquainted with the basic history of the museum and all upcoming exhibitions and events to better represent the museum and its mission.
- Familiarity with Microsoft office suite, and basic computer skills required.
