PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Hiring Salary: $54,587 - $68,233/year

OVERVIEW OF JOB
The Accountant l will perform a variety of accounting functions associated with the analysis and maintenance of assigned funds and accounts for Aurora Water Financial Administration Division.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists Supervisor with audit requests and reconciliations from City Finance
- Prepares work papers, statements, and schedules
- Reconciles and analyzes fund and account activity
- Prepares and analyzes reports and projections for management review
- Balances and maintains general ledger accounts and fund
- Identifies, researches, and resolves problems as directed by Supervisor
- Prepares funds available by subfund under Supervisor guidance
- Prepares and completes special projects and reports under Supervisor guidance
- Assists with special projects
- Assists in developing work goals and objectives for self
- Assists in interpretation and implementation of authoritative pronouncements
- Communicates and resolves accounting issues
- May perform additional duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or directly related field with a major in accounting.
Experience:
- At least six (6) months - two (2) years’ progressively responsible experience in a large organization. Governmental or auditing experience preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills; skill in the use of computers including spreadsheet and word processing software applications.
- Skill in keying information into software programs and proficient 10-key calculator by touch.
Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and requirements of accounting, governmental accounting standards, auditing practices, and accounting systems.
- Set a standard for professionalism, integrity, respect, customer service, and teamwork.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external business partners.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Analyze accounting data and information for accuracy.
- Perform a variety of mathematical calculations.
- Organize, schedule, and prioritize work in a manner to meet deadlines.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands:
- Light physical work lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds
- Occasional lifting and carrying of objects
- Some walking and standing
- Vision for reading and interpreting reports and other written material
- Hand/eye coordination for operation of computer and 10-key calculator
- Speech communication
