Construction Water Discharge Lead ( Sizewell C)

Location: Suffolk, London (hybrid working arrangements). 
Employment type: Permanent full-time/ part-time. 
Employment basis: The role is expected to be a full- time position however we are open to discussing a more flexible or part- time approach where possible.

Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project is now seeking private investment with a view to start construction in 2024. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050. 

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Construction Water Discharge Activity Lead, you’ll be responsible for securing water discharge activity permits, required to enable constructions of Sizewell C Main Development and its Associated Developments. 
 

Our teams are set up to work flexibly, with a hybrid working approach between our offices and your home. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively. 
 

The Role 
 

• You’ll be a key part of the Environment Team who are responsible for securing approval of construction permits for waste, water discharges, flood risk activities and emissions to air. 
• You’ll work closely with the Environmental Permitting Delivery Leads and internal stakeholders to obtain the necessary input date including design, risk assessment and methodologies in support of the applications. 
• You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of and reporting on the construction water discharge activity permits required to support the construction of Sizewell C and its Associated Developments. 
• You’ll be a key internal interface for the SZC Environmental Team with the Delivery Team and other internal stakeholders and external interface with regulators.
   

The Skills 
 

• You’ll have experience in environmental / construction consenting, permitting, licensing on a complex engineering, major infrastructure project.
• An understanding of the challenges faced in construction environmental permitting in a complex engineering, major infrastructure project.
• You’ll have working knowledge of water discharge activity permitting and a background in hydrogeology.
• An understanding of HRA, CRoW and WFD in relation to permitting.
• Good project management skills.
• You’ll have knowledge of environmental regulators and how they might interact on complex projects/in environmentally sensitive locations.
