Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in hand by August 2026.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in atmospheric science or a related field. Experience with numerical modeling. Knowledge of atmospheric dynamics and precipitation process.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Yixin Berry Wen. The selected candidate will investigate the physical mechanisms of extreme precipitation and severe weather using theoretical analysis, numerical modeling, and observations. Research topics may include mesoscale atmospheric dynamics, gravity waves, convective systems, tropical and subtropical meteorology (e.g. sea breeze), and precipitation processes. The successful candidate will collaborate on interdisciplinary projects integrating atmospheric science with advanced computational approaches, publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, assist in proposal development, and present research at scientific conferences. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.

Postdoctoral Associate duties will include:

Conduct independent and collaborative research on the physical processes governing extreme precipitation and severe weather using theoretical analysis, numerical modeling, and atmospheric observations.

Analyze meteorological datasets and numerical model simulations to investigate mesoscale atmospheric dynamics, convective systems, gravity waves, and precipitation processes; prepare manuscripts for publication and present research findings at scientific conferences.

Contribute to proposal development, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams, and assist in the development of computational tools and scientific workflows supporting the laboratory's research objectives.
