Role
As a System Administrator Intern, you will gain valuable experience in server management and support. This internship provides a practical learning environment where you will assist with the maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of servers, endpoints and related infrastructure under the guidance of experienced staff. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assisting with System Administration
- Monitoring: Observing server performance, identifying potential issues, and alerting senior staff.
- Troubleshooting: Assisting in diagnosing and resolving basic server problems under supervision.
- Basic Tasks: Performing routine tasks like software updates, backups, and system restarts.
Learning and Development:
- Hands-on Experience: Gaining practical experience in system and endpoint administration tasks.
- Knowledge Acquisition: Learning about different server and endpoint operating systems, technologies, and tools.
- Documentation: Contributing to the creation and maintenance of server and endpoint documentation.
Other Duties:
- Support: Providing technical support to internal users as needed.
- Communication: Communicating technical information clearly and concisely.
- Adherence to Procedures: Following established procedures and protocols.
- Collaborate with the Tech Services team to support day-to-day network operations
Experience
- Experience with scripting or automation tools is a plus.
- Operating systems - Windows Server (Active Directory, Group Policy); macOS
- Networking basics - TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP; subnetting and routing; VPNs and Remote Access
- Hardware and infrastructure – understanding of servers, workstations and peripherals; virtualization (VMware)
Education/Certifications/Licenses
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Certifications are preferred: CompTIA A+, Network + or Security+
Skills
- Basic understanding of computer hardware and software.
- Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.).
- Knowledge of network concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Eagerness to learn and apply new technologies.
