About the role

Summary

The Director, Annual Giving reports directly to the Executive Director, Annual Giving and Engagement and is responsible for development, coordination and execution of annual giving fundraising strategies. Directs and executes fundraising initiatives for donors at the annual giving level, including direct response and faculty appeals, mid-level outreach, employee giving and various engagement touchpoints.

Job Duties

  • In collaboration with leadership, defines Annual Giving fundraising strategies, including audience, content, channels and timing. Reports on and analyzes campaign results, providing recommendations for continued optimization and growth.
  • Leads the direct response program, partnering with our third-party agency on multi-channel acquisition and renewal strategies and campaigns. Facilitates all components of appeal execution including resource gathering, list building, reviews and approvals and QA of final deliverables.
  • Responsible for the Mid-Level program, managing a mid-level gift officer. Develops and partners on mid-level strategies and carries a small portfolio of mid-level donors.
  • Works with faculty to develop fundraising initiatives; assists with managing the faculty appeal process and ensures strengthening of ties between faculty and advancement. Facilitates both mail and digital appeals, assisting with building forms and sending mass emails as needed.
  • Leads Employee Giving Program and incorporates into annual and mid-level giving strategies.
  • Collaborates with teams across the Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs, as well as outside of the department, to produce creative assets, update web site content, secure approvals, ensure proper data flow across systems and to move programs forward.
  • Serves as the department’s subject matter expert on annual giving appeals and efforts, as well as on our digital fundraising platform; answers operational and procedural questions related to processes, procedures and fundraising database/software.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of relevant experience. 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Seven+ years of experience leading an annual giving or direct-response fundraising program.  
  • Experience in mid or major gifts / working as a gift officer or frontline fundraiser is a plus.
  • Experience working in a medical education setting.
  • Experience working with a content management system (CMS) such as Blackbaud Luminate Online and a CRM such as Blackbaud CRM/Raiser’s Edge or equivalent.
  • Base level knowledge of HTML, CSS.
  • Strategic thinker, while still being able to pay close attention to detail.
  • Strong project management skills; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communicator with writing and editing experience.
