North America Payroll Manager
Location: Hybrid, Exton, PA
Position Summary:
The North America Payroll Manager reports to the Global Director of Payroll and is responsible for overseeing end-to-end payroll operations across the United States and Canada. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing for multi-state and multi-province populations, including base pay, bonuses, and stock equity transactions. The ideal candidate has a strong command of payroll compliance, systems, and process improvement across multiple platforms such as Dayforce and Workday.
Responsibilities:
Payroll Operations & Compliance -
- Manage and process biweekly and semi-monthly payrolls for U.S. and Canadian employees across multiple states and provinces.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, provincial, and local tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and reporting requirements.
- Administer and reconcile payroll for stock equity transactions.
- Review and validate payroll data inputs, including new hires, terminations, bonuses, benefits, and other adjustments.
- Oversee year-end processes, including W-2, T4, and R1 reporting and distribution.
- Coordinate and support external audits related to federal, provincial, state, and local taxes.
- Maintain strict adherence to established SOX payroll controls.
System Management & Integration -
- Serve as a subject matter expert for Dayforce (Pay & Time).
- Partner with HRIS, Finance, and IT teams to ensure accurate and efficient data integration between HR, Payroll, and Time systems.
- Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements and system automations to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
- Plan and oversee payroll testing for system upgrades, configuration changes, and new functionality.
- Develop, customize, and maintain complex payroll and compliance reports within Dayforce, ensuring data integrity and timely delivery of insights to key stakeholders.
Leadership & Collaboration -
- Supervise and mentor Payroll Specialists, Tax Specialists, and Payroll Supervisor, ensuring ongoing development and adherence to best practices.
- Collaborate with Finance on general ledger reconciliations, payroll journal entries, and month-end reporting.
- Partner with HR and Benefits teams to ensure accurate benefit deductions, leaves, final pay, and special payments.
- Provide expert guidance to business leaders and employees on payroll-related inquiries.
- Complete Special Projects as needed
- This is a full-time role expected to work 40 hours per week, hybrid in Exton, PA.
- Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer (or any other physical requirements). The role requires communication with managers, peers, and other colleagues of the company in person (on occasion), and by utilizing Microsoft Teams chat, calling, and meeting functions.
- This role does not require travel.
Qualifications:
- 5–8 years of progressive payroll leadership experience, including multi-state U.S. and Canadian payroll.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and provincial wage and tax regulations.
- Experience managing payroll for equity compensation (RSUs, ESPPs, stock options) and deferred compensation plans.
- Demonstrated proficiency with payroll platforms, particularly Dayforce , Workday experience a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or PCP/CPM (Canadian Payroll designation) preferred.
