Job Description

The Oklahoma Water Resources Board is a state agency responsible for overseeing the complex mission of managing, monitoring, planning for, and financing the state's water resources and infrastructure towards reliable future supplies that support strong communities, commerce, and the environment. The agency is seeking a Groundwater Monitoring Technician seasonal-temporary employee to join our family of professionals in delivering exceptional services and expertise to Oklahomans.

Division: Water, Assessment, Trends, and Environmental Research

Section: Groundwater Monitoring

Location of Work: 3800 N. Classen Blvd, OKC OK 73118

Travel: Extensive field work is required.

Description of Work Duties:

This position is primarily field-based, with extensive travel and hands-on data collection across Oklahoma. Field teams typically depart from the OWRB office on Monday morning, travel to designated sites, and return on Wednesday evening, with additional equipment preparation and data management completed later in the week.

Technicians will participate in a variety of field assignments and monitoring projects, including but not limited to:

• Conducting annual and trend groundwater level measurements throughout the state’s aquifers.

• Performing compliance monitoring at facility wells to ensure protection of groundwater resources.

• Collecting water-quality samples as part of the Groundwater Monitoring and Assessment Program (GMAP), including on-site field chemistry testing, proper sample handling, and equipment decontamination.

• Supporting aquifer characterization through slug testing, downhole camera inspections, and verification of well construction and hydraulic properties.

• Assisting with the installation, maintenance, and calibration of continuous and telemetered groundwater-level monitoring systems.

• Operating, maintaining, and cleaning field instruments, including pumps, water-quality sondes, pressure transducers, and telemetry units.

• Communicating with landowners and coordinating access to private wells and properties.

When not in the field, technicians will:

• Enter and review collected data for quality control and reporting.

• Prepare and maintain field equipment for upcoming sampling trips.

• Support documentation and organization of field activities within the statewide monitoring database.

• Attend occasional conferences or training events to support professional development.

• Take on additional responsibilities based on individual skill sets and training opportunities as they arise.

Education and Experience:

Required: None

Preferred: A bachelor's or associate degree — completed or currently in progress — with at least 24 semester hours in a physical, natural, or biological science (e.g., geology, hydrology, chemistry, environmental science, physical geography, or engineering) is preferred but not required. Knowledge or experience in groundwater, field sampling, environmental monitoring, agriculture, or GIS is beneficial.
