Department Summary

The Honors College is dedicated to enriching the undergraduate academic experience for the more than 2,000 talented, motivated, and well-prepared students who choose to be members. The goal of the Honors College is to help these students build an excellent foundation that prepares them for studying at the graduate level and establishing a fulfilling career.

The Honors College helps approximately 2,000 undergraduate students get the most out of their UNT experience by providing in-class and extracurricular activities that are broader, deeper, or more complex than the norm. Honors College members may take Honors courses, engage in undergraduate research, participate in Honors College programming, live in Honors College housing, and enjoy other membership benefits. Membership is open to students from all majors. Admission decisions are made based on a holistic review of application materials, including transcripts, a personal statement, and a resume. Position Overview

The Assistant Director for Student Life provides oversight and planning for the development, implementation, and evaluation of student life programs, services, and activities in the Honors College

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and at least 4 years relevant experience in student programming or services, student affairs, or other professionally related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong presentation skills. Strong problem solving skills. Ability to use a variety of computer applications. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work independently and lead project teams effectively. Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate). Ability to handle a variety of difficult, sensitive issues while maintaining confidentiality and tact.

  • Oversee student led programming groups (e.g. Honors College Programming Council and Honors Interest Communities) and provide oversight for the Navigating the Nest mentorship program and assist with the selection and training of HNRS 1000:First Year Seminar Peer Instructors.
