POSITION SUMMARY
The English teacher is the primary person in the classroom to present instruction of course content, facilitate learning opportunities and assess student participation and achievement. The English teacher is a critical component of the success of Maranatha High School and each individual student, and are expected to comply with the job duties and expectations set forth below or as assigned by School Administration from time to time.
STATEMENT OF FAITH
As a Christian individual, employed with a Christian institution, Employee acknowledges and affirms that Employee believes, embraces and at all times does and will follow the School’s Statement of Faith, as expressed in Exhibit A attached and incorporated hereto. Employee shall follow Biblical patterns and principles and will manifest by precept and example the highest Christian virtues, values and personal decorum to serve as a Christian role model at all times. Employee understands that continued employment with School is contingent upon this commitment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General responsibilities include the following duties and expectations. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs. Employee is expected to:
- Facilitate a positive and productive learning environment
- Provide substantial opportunities for student achievement
- Provide for instruction of applicable course content
- Create lesson plans and course syllabus
- Update and maintain curriculum guides for all courses assigned
- Assess student achievement and mastery of content
- Responsible for student grading/evaluation within timeline and deadlines set by Administration
- Respond to email in a timely manner and be available for regular conference periods to assist parents and students as needed
- Communicate effectively and regularly with parents or guardians about student progress
- Attend Faculty/Staff Orientation days, all Professional Development days and school training sessions, scheduled events/meetings involving employee’s department, all Admissions events, including, but not limited to: Open House, Closer Look, The Mission 20XX Event, Back-To-School Nights, Graduation, and Baccalaureate and other staff or school functions as assigned
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned from time to time, including, but not limited to, supervision of traffic flow/parking areas, student breaks/lunches, extra-curricular functions, Chapel/assemblies and general enforcement of campus standards, as assigned by Academic Dean or designee
- Be an example of Christian maturity to students, families and colleagues
- Be fully committed to Maranatha’s mission of providing a quality university preparatory education in an intentional Christ-honoring community of faith, belief and practice. Able to affirm through exhibiting personal and professional support of the School’s Mission, Statement of Faith and Lifestyle Statement
- Collaborate, interact and work well with others, including students, parents and guardians, staff, faculty, administration, alumni, vendors and any other personnel involved with the School or education process
- Adhere to MHS policies, procedures, and guidelines; as well as applicable industry and employment regulations
- Participate on committees and panels as directed
- Respect confidentiality of all personal and organizational information
- Assist in other duties and comply with other directives as needed and directed by the administration
- Maintain a positive, collaborative, cooperative, helpful attitude and a team spirit is the hallmark of the support staff at MHS
- Employees must attend church services in accordance with the MHS Statement of Faith and Lifestyle Statement, and are encouraged to be active in their local churches in addition to regular church attendance
- Attendance is required at all meetings announced by the Senior Administrator over your department
