About the role
The Principal Engineer (PE) role in Fire TV Business and Devices Advertising (FBDA) involves influencing product and tech teams across multiple VP orgs, including Fire TV, FBDA (this team), Alexa, and Amazon Advertising. The tech stack that powers ads experience cuts across multiple systems owned by aforementioned orgs. As such, the scope of the PE spans across multiple device tech stack that powers experience on FTV, Alexa, Tablet and advertising tech stack. The PE is expected to develop a deep understanding of how these systems interact in order to solve some of the most difficult scaling and performance problems facing highly complex and distributed systems.
A difficult challenge facing Ad Enablement is to replace an existing architecture with one that works for the scaling and performance needs of Fire TV UI and Applications, meets the needs of Advertising services (KPIs such as Ad Impressions, Click Through Rates and other Ad metrics). Some other challenges include, building an architecture and services that are extensible across multiple devices and operating systems. Our products have evolved organically over time and in some cases do not share tech stack – rearchitecting those to enable multi device implementations is particularly challenging as the ecosystem of the target devices are separate and distinct as well.
