About the role
Back Market is the world’s leading refurbished electronics marketplace with a team of 700 people, powering operations in 17 countries (and counting!).
Named one of the World's Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company in 2019 and again in 2021, our mission is simple: empowering people to consume tech sustainably by offering folks a high quality, accessible, and more eco-friendly alternative to buying new electronics. Why? Refurbished tech helps lower our collective environmental impact. We have indeed contributed to avoid the production of more than 1,000,000 tons of CO2e worldwide since our launch in 2014.
Be part of an exciting and growing international adventure that will change the way the world consumes tech.
This role is eligible for being hybrid or fully remote.
The Product Design, Research & Content team, part of the Product org at Back Market, is a distributed team of 25 people located in our offices in New York, Europe, and Tokyo as well as fully remote, ensuring a richly diverse mindset in our approach and deliverables and a passion to build interfaces with the user as our focus.
We zoom out to see the bigger picture but also understand the devil is in the details. We are responsible for the user experience on Back Market, whether that be our customers or merchants, and through designing, prototyping, testing, and iterating, we evolve it in collaboration with different (and extraordinary) people.
We do this because we want to make the world a better place. Our credentials speak for themselves; we’re certified BCorp, and we’ve prevented 1 million tons of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere already. A lot of people talk about tech circularity - we’re making it real. <3
We’re looking for Mid-level Product Designers (UX or UI leaning) to join us to make Back Market the most successful destination for buying refurbished. You’ll collaborate with our Product Managers and UX Researchers to bring a plethora of concepts and product evolution, you’ll work on a daily basis with developers to validate the technical feasibility of your proposals and to ensure the fulfillment of your craft, and you’ll also be connected with other Back Markets functions (Marketing, Brand, Business etc.) to help articulate the needs and expectations of the customer and the business.
With the support of a Design Manager and experienced principals, you’ll grow in maturity, you’ll own the design voice for key areas of our journey, and build strong relationships with product squads, business stakeholders, and other designers to deliver impactful results. You’re at the stage of your career where you love the details of design, can effortlessly demonstrate design autonomy within a cross-functional team, and are looking for an opportunity to challenge your continued growth.
