Job Description
NetImpact Strategies has an exciting opportunity for a SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to support our growing Platform Development and Operations team. The Application DBA will work in a DevOps environment supporting critical infrastructure and application deployments for a high-visibility federal program. This position focuses on managing and supporting database services and application data flows, while also engaging in CI/CD pipelines and version control practices to support Agile development teams.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic about database operations, automation, and continuous improvement and wants to grow in a hybrid DBA/DevOps role.
Responsibilities
- Support and maintain database systems primarily for Microsoft SQL Server in development, test, and production environments. Experience in PostgreSQL, and MySQL not required but nice to have.
- Perform routine DBA tasks such as backups, performance tuning, indexing, query optimization, and data migrations.
- Collaborate with DevOps and development teams to integrate database operations into CI/CD pipelines.
- Work with version control systems such as Git or Bitbucket to track and manage changes to database scripts and schemas including code branching activities.
- Help build and maintain automation scripts for database provisioning and deployment using tools like Liquibase or custom Python/PowerShell scripts.
- Assist in maintaining data integrity, availability, and security for mission-critical applications.
- Contributes to the automation of database monitoring, alerting, and reporting solutions.
- Document processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for database support and operations.
- Support incident troubleshooting and root cause analysis in collaboration with operations and development teams.
- Learn and grow within a DevOps team environment, following best practices for Agile delivery and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Required
- B.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- 1–3 years of experience in a database administration or database-focused application support role.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, and familiarity with other RDBMS like MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Understanding of relational database concepts, stored procedures, triggers, views, normalization, and indexing strategies.
- Experience with version control systems like Git or Bitbucket for managing SQL and database scripts.
- Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and supporting tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
- Experience with Dacpacs
- Familiarity with AWS RDS, S3, as well as Azure DevOps or other cloud-based database services.
- Exposure to DevOps pipelines and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform or scripting tools).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
- A collaborative mindset with a willingness to learn from senior engineers and participate in team-based delivery.
Preferred
- Experience working in a federal government IT environment.
- Exposure to Liquibase, Flyway, or similar tools for database schema versioning.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
- Interest or experience in scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell for automation.
- Working knowledge of monitoring and observability tools like CloudWatch, Splunk, or Prometheus.
- Previous Federal Consulting Experience Preferred
