Position Overview
The person in this position is responsible for conducting research on next-generation data transmission concepts for high-capacity undersea fiber-optic communication systems. This role supports development and research initiatives across the organization that require deep technical expertise in optical communications, including fiber-optic system design, test equipment, optical amplifiers, components, and automation. Success in this role requires the ability to perform experimental research related to various aspects of optical transmission systems, monitoring and sensing schemes, and automation technologies.
Responsibilities
- Conducts experimental studies on various aspects of existing and emerging submarine communication links, focusing on data transmission, sensing technologies, and related signal processing.
- Develops innovative concepts and provides recommendations for improvements in communication systems.
- Aggregates and summarizes experimental results for internal presentations, contributing to strategic decisions and directions for new product development and manufacturing innovation.
- Participates in cross-functional teams focused on product development and enhancement, offering technical input to guide future technological advancements.
- Contributes to the foundational research and development of innovative solutions for the submarine communications business.
- Maintains a high standard of integrity and ensures all activities align with SubCom’s policies, procedures, and core values.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with optical test and measurement equipment, and a strong background in conducting experiments.
- Proficiency in programming languages and automation tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- General understanding of telecommunications technologies.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across teams within the SubCom organization.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly and persuasively articulate ideas.
- Creative approach to problem-solving and a proactive mindset in addressing technical challenges.
