Role description:
Arcadis is seeking an experienced Assistant Construction Manager/Inspector to join our team in our Arlington, Virginia office to manage regional projects.
This is full-time onsite role for two (2) projects in the Manassas Virgina area which are scheduled to begin construction by June 2024. The candidate in this role will report and work with one our Senior Construction Managers.
Our ideal candidate will become a member of our talented team of construction management professionals that focus on delivering outstanding client service, helping them program, plan, and deliver their infrastructure, building and engineering projects. This position includes supporting our management team on water, wastewater and other project types from the pre-bid phase through the construction phase for these exciting and challenging projects. In this role, you will be working with our experienced project and construction managers to gain knowledge of construction and project management to successfully deliver these projects to our clients. You will work closely with project staff, clients, engineers, contractors and end-users to develop high quality projects. We’re looking for candidates that want to change the industry through determination, education, and leadership.
Role accountabilities:
The Assistant Construction Manager/Inspector will support construction management of public Design/Bid/Build, Design/Build, CMAR through all project phases: planning; design; preconstruction, construction, commissioning & validation.
Other responsibilities include:
- Cost Estimating: Develop skills to perform independent cost estimates from design phase submittals, pre-bid project cost estimates and change order estimates during construction. Also, learn to negotiate change orders with contractors.
- CPM Scheduling: Acquire knowledge from our experienced CPM schedulers to develop pre-bid CPM schedules from the project design documents, perform analysis of the contractor’s baseline and monthly CPM schedule updates and deliver the analysis in a detailed report and during project meetings.
- Produce project progress reports and briefings for project stakeholders.
- Participate with our project teams in project coordination and monthly progress meetings. Support the development of meeting agendas and meeting minutes.
- Assist in the management of the project documents and communication through contract/document management software.
- Observe and inspect construction work performed by contractors, performs punch list inspections, reviews drawings and specifications and other technical documents, prepare detailed daily activity and progress reports and participate in project schedule and contractor invoice reviews.
- Maintain quality assurance requirements and approach and monitor code compliance issues.
- Inspect and determine deviations from general compliance with Contract Documents; clearly and professionally inform the contractor of required corrections.
- Review submittals and other construction documents and recommends technical solutions.
- Monitor and document contractor resource utilization (labor, materials, and equipment) for field changes, and time and material work and assist with negotiation of basic field construction changes.
- Verify equipment and materials installation for payment purposes.
- Maintain Payment Quantity documentation.
- Perform mathematical calculations as necessary during inspection activities.
- While performing daily inspections, inspector will be required to ensure Arcadis’ project safety guidelines are being met.
- Support the review of contractor’s monthly payment applications with our project managers.
- Establish a culture of health and safety on the project.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field.
- 3 years of inspection and management experience on municipal construction projects.
