Job Description
The Director of Accounting is a key role in supporting the oversight of the daily accounting activities of Telemundo Enterprises. The position will assist the VP, Operational Controller in compiling financial results for reporting to the NBCU reporting team in connection with preparing the Company’s consolidated quarterly and annual financial statements. This position will need to work as a member of a cohesive team that can successfully meet tight deadlines and responds quickly to changes in the business environment.
Responsibilities:
- Month-end close procedures inclusive of journal entry reviews, account reconciliation reviews, and financial statement analysis.
- Identification, tracking, and review of accounting issues through resolution; draft accounting memos, process workflows, and related controls as deemed appropriate.
- Partner as a trusted advisor with the finance team on monthly close, reporting, and control issues.
- Collaborate with financial planning & analysis and operational finance teams to ensure proper accounting and determine appropriate entries concerning monthly close.
- Support the VP, Operational Controller with general oversight of LATAM offices (Mexico and Argentina).
- Assist the VP, Operational Controller, with the socialization of financial and operational policy matters across the various Telemundo Finance teams.
- Support the VP, Operational Controller in overseeing internal controls over the monthly close, financial reporting, and all Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance aspects.
- Liaise with external and internal audit to assist in fulfilling audit requests.
- Oversee that all transactions are timely recorded, documented, reviewed, and supported in accordance with company policies, generally accepted accounting principles and SOX controls.
- Help review divisional financial statement reviews (i.e., Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Cash Flows) and perform analytical analysis over the Balance Sheet.
- Assist in the accurate and timely preparation and delivery of all regular and ad hoc management reports.
- Mentor and develop a staff of two using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities; and monitor and evaluate results.
- Support long-term Global Controllership initiatives for automation and standardization.
- Must demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and commitment to achieving results.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance
- A minimum of 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, and a track record managing teams
- Proven business partner with the ability to problem solve, drive resolution, guide, and counsel on a wide variety of internal reporting priorities
