The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry is recruiting to fill a permanent full time State Harness Racing Technician position out of Bangor.
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The primary purpose of the position is to provide assistance in veterinary laboratory diagnosis, testing and related routine medical procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Obtaining blood samples for testing
- Providing assistance to the Veterinarian for emergency medical procedures
- Overseeing and monitoring the collection of urine samples from racehorses and for obtaining test samples from draft animals at pulling events at agricultural fairs
- Preparing for shipment and delivering collected samples to designated testing facilities
- Transporting and assisting in the setup of on-site testing and other equipment
- Delivering paperwork and monies to the Augusta office
- Delivering supplies from Augusta to the work site
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) years of experience handling horses, including participation in or familiarization with urine and/or blood sample collection activities.
Preference will be given to those with experience in working with equine and bovine animals and knowledge of routine/emergency medical care of large animals.
