Solid Power is seeking a VP of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. The safety of our employees is of the highest priority for Solid Power and needs to be shown in everything we do. The preferred candidate will have ten plus years of Environmental Health and Safety experience in a manufacturing or chemical facility, with firsthand experience leading a safety team. Additionally, you must have extensive knowledge of health and safety regulations, be detail-oriented, and have excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to drive internal initiatives to increase awareness, execution, and compliance with all policies to ensure a safe and effective working environment.
Job Duties
- Oversees review and design of safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate employee performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.
- Updates and implements training for all Solid Power personnel focused on safety, hazardous materials, and industrial hygiene.
- Drives Health and Safety First culture, compliance and management system programs, and provides leadership in health and safety training initiatives for two facilities in Colorado.
- Manages Environmental programs at both Solid Power locations.
- Development and/or implementation of Health and Safety compliance programs and EHS Management systems (ISO 45001), standards, and procedures.
- Ensures access to experts in contractor safety, LOTO, electrical safety, combustible dust, machine guarding, hot work, and work at heights.
- Is involved in project management activities with guidance on health and safety and confirms that the project objectives fulfill industry, local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.
- Collaborates with leadership to develop and communicate an Emergency Action Plan.
- Ensures compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA). Manage the preparation of OSHA reports.
- Develops a collaborative and accountable team environment, fostering continuous improvement aligned with company goals.
- Manages the department’s budget to achieve business objectives. Report status of projects to business and market leaders.
- Continuously improves the safety cultural in a fast-paced business environment by inspiring others to action and accountability through collaboration and influence.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent education/experience) in engineering, environmental health, or occupational health related discipline, plus 10+ years’ experience.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA. PSM, IFC, and EPA
- Chemical safety background with a focus on flammable liquids and water reactive compounds preferred.
- ISO 45001 Internal Auditor (Lead Auditor preferred).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills - must be able to write and implement administrative policies and procedures. Ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms. Strong presentation skills.
- Familiarity with project and department budget process and tools.
- Conceptual planning ability, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Works well under pressure while effectively managing conflict and demonstrates flexibility in work style to accommodate changing priorities and fixed deadlines.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to wear respirator protection.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
- This position will require routine bending, walking, stooping, and kneeling.
Salary Range: $195,000 - $220,000 annually
