The Role:As the Lead Engineer for our Instrument Data Fabric platform, you will architect and build the foundational source of truth for all financial instruments traded by the firm. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of our instrument data, automating its flow from sourcing and validation to storage and distribution. This is a high-impact, autonomous role for an exceptional backend engineer who thrives on architecting scalable data systems and leveraging sophisticated automation that ensures integrity and reliability. 
Responsibilities:
  • Architect & Own the Platform: Take complete ownership of designing, building, and maintaining the firm's Instrument Data Fabric, the definitive source for all financial instrument data.
  • Engineer Resilient Data Pipelines: Design and manage robust, automated data pipelines to source, validate, and normalize instrument data from a diverse set of vendors, direct feeds, and even unstructured sources.
  • Master the Database: Develop a highly available, performant, and extensible database architecture capable of supporting our expanding global, cross-asset trading needs. Your focus will be on schema design, query optimization, and overall performance.
  • Build the Product (API & Tools): Create and maintain a clean, powerful, API-first interface for all internal systems (trading, risk, compliance) to consume data. Additionally, build intuitive internal tools and interfaces for our Operations and Trading teams to easily manage and view the data.

You Bring:
  • Experience: You have 5+ years of experience in backend software engineering, with a proven track record of designing, building, and owning data-intensive applications and platforms.
  • Core Competencies:
    • Exceptional Python: Expert-level proficiency in Python for backend development, API creation, and data engineering.
    • Database Engineering: A deep, practical command of database internals, query optimization, and data modeling. You architect schemas built for extensibility and performance, ensuring fast, reliable data access for all downstream systems.
    • Pipeline Architecture and Automation:  Deep expertise in architecting and automating complex ETL pipelines. You are fluent working with orchestrators (e.g., Airflow) and focus on creating resilient, self-healing data flows. 
    • API Architecture: Demonstrated ability to design, build, and maintain clean, high-performance APIs for critical system-to-system communication.
  • Ideal Profile:
    • You are an architect and a systems thinker, with the experience and confidence to lead a critical platform from concept through production.
    • You have a product mindset, with an ability to empathize with the needs of both machine consumers and human users.
    • You are meticulous about data quality, system reliability, and documentation.
  • Bonus Points: Experience with financial reference data (securities, corporate actions, symbology) is a significant plus.
  • Education: You have a Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

In compliance with New York City’s Pay Transparency Law, the anticipated base salary for this role ranges from $250,000 - $500,000 annually, plus performance bonus, and based on experience and qualifications. Please note that this range excludes other components of total compensation, such as bonuses.
