Job Description

The Washington Operating Officer is responsible for managing five key aspects of our business at the office level in partnership with the Office Head. The Operating Officers primary responsibilities are inclusive of the oversight of office metrics, process implementation, incident communication, client team staffing, and general office and personnel management.

The Operating Officer must be an experienced operator with the industry knowledge and gravitas to influence strategy and set the tactical direction of the office. The OO works directly with assigned leads for each of our three pillars; Portfolio Management Lead, Client Service Lead, and Strategic Advisory lead, respectively; who act as members of the office leadership team in support of the teams/colleagues in their respective area, in addition to other leaders across the firm’s other functions including Operations, Human Resources, and Technology, etc.

The Operating Officer is the tactical leader on the ground, synchronizing activities across teams to deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the regular review of, and analysis of key business metrics informing action plans in the office in order to meet target goals.

  • Monitor process execution and identify and implement enhancements in conjunction with other Private Client Operating Officers and business stakeholders.

  • Run office specific management meetings, delivering minutes, coordinating action items, ownership and due dates to ensure timely and efficient communication streams with office head/s.

  • Develop recommended process changes through engaging key Private Client and internal partners (Investment Solutions Group, Technology, HR, A&F, Compliance, Legal, Operations, and Messaging) to determine challenges and solutions.

  • Serve as the lead change agent for new processes, policies, technologies, etc., that are being implemented across the Private Client business.

  • Partner with Human Resources to ensure the right client team structures are built to maximize the client experience, in addition to ownership of capacity and staffing needs as it relates to your office.

  • Management of people in partnership with human resources, including recruitment efforts, annual reviews, and day-to-day management of colleagues.

  • Serve as the immediate point of escalation and coordinator of incident resolutions with your office. You will also communicate incidents that occur both within and outside of your office to your colleagues to increase awareness along with escalating issues where appropriate.

  • Ensure colleagues in your office follow firm procedures along with coordination and oversight of training related needs and establishing training standards including oversight of new colleague onboarding.

  • Responsible for the communication of business and firmwide initiatives to colleagues ensuring there are no gaps in understanding.

  • Oversight of facilities plans and organization in partnership with the Office Solutions and Corporate Real Estate teams.

  • Directly supervise administrative staff and oversee office administrative procedures.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in a directly related/and or applicable position, preferably within the financial services sector.

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • MBA or graduate degree strongly preferred
