The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. Our New York City Communications team is seeking an intern for the Fall to support our work in public outreach, marketing, media communications, and community relations.
The Association offers many resources to help you maintain work-life harmonization through your changing needs and life situations. Internship Overview:
Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
Internship Duration: 5/20/24 – 8/9/24
Hybrid position. Must be based in New York City servicing NYC, Long Island, and Westchester County
Salary: $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities
- Create promotional materials for local events and community outreach.
- Write and edit compelling survivor stories.
- Coordinate resources for local events.
- Attend events and assist the communications director with communications and marketing duties.
- Attend interviews at local media outlets.
- Local media outlet research as well as craft and pitch stories.
- Support social media content creation and management.
Qualifications
- Writing samples required.
- Proficient in multiple social media platforms.
- Proven excellence in written communication skills.
- Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
- Ability to deal expertly in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.
- Effective oral and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment handling multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
- Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Basic knowledge of Canva.
- Required Equipment:Reliable WiFi Connection
- Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30 am-5 pm.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
