This role manages the operational safety and security processes for Marriott businesses in the US/CAN region and at Marriott International Headquarters (MIHQ). It supports the Global Safety & Security mission to minimize controllable losses through specialized technical knowledge and advanced problem-solving techniques. The role provides day-to-day leadership to all aspects of safety and security ensuring that both Regional Vice Presidents (RVPs) and the Chief Safety & Security Officer are regularly apprised and informed of key safety and security issues. Additionally, this role establishes and maintains effective communications throughout the organization and represents the organization with owners and customers.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
- Serve as Sr. Director for US/CAN Safety & Security function in alignment with discipline, business and enterprise strategy with focus on efficiency of delivery, consistency of policy, procedure and duty of care, and effectiveness through desired results. Contributes thought leadership to the development of safety/security policy and program development.
- Has responsibility to supervise five Area Directors and ensure they are properly supported, trained and operating effectively within their area of responsibility.
- Identify conditions and actions that erode profits or have the potential to do so. Focus on high-risk properties with Marriott International business leaders and RVPs and initiate effective plans of action.
- Promote compliance with Marriott International policies and key safety and security federal, state and local laws and regulations.
- Utilize safety and security communication packages, training programs and approved vendors to effectively promote an environment that mitigates hazards at each property. Ensure that each assigned property meets the proper standard of care for the protection of guests.
- Leveraging data and intelligence, knowledge, and experience in the Safety and Security function:
- identifies and implements improvements to business processes.
- evaluates alternatives and makes judgments on appropriate business issues.
- provides ongoing advice and guidance to the business concerning issues related to Safety and Security
- Manages US/CAN Safety & Security function, program schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective results.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Area Directors, property Safety & Security leaders and Human Resources teams, Corporate Legal Department, Americas Team Members, and Regional Claims Office to provide guidance and/or consultation, as appropriate, to effectively influence business decisions and ultimately financial outcomes and optimize overall work effectiveness.
- Partner with Sales & Marketing to provide assurance of Marriott’s safety and security protocol for prospective conferences and other special events being held at Marriott properties.
- Using knowledge of Marriott’s business and scanning the competitive environment, anticipate and identify opportunities and challenges to respond with effective strategies and actions that are aligned with overarching services delivered by GS&S.
- Develop policies and training programs in safety/security to ensure the managed portfolio of properties have an effective safety and security program, crisis management plan and security management plan.

- Manage and influence key safety and security vendor relationships.
- Remain actively involved and connected to relevant associations to remain current with the evolution of safety and security systems and approach and maintain relationships with key law enforcement/intelligence agencies to understand Marriott’s current and emerging threat landscape.
