The Lead Data Engineer will architect and manage our enterprise data warehouse & business intelligence BI data modeling, supporting our business intelligence BI team's ability to deliver impactful analytics solutions. This role will lead the design and implementation of robust data pipelines, oversee extract, transform and load (ETL) processes, and drive technological innovation in our data platform. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strategic and dynamic thinking to build scalable data architecture that enables advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and automated reporting capabilities across the organization. The Lead Data Engineer will also partner with IT security to implement robust data governance frameworks and ensure compliance with data privacy regulations. As a technical leader, this position will mentor junior engineers and establish coding standards and best practices for the entire data engineering team.
LOCATIONHybrid/Remote – Fort Wayne, IN; 5% travel may be required.
COMPENSATIONThis position has a competitive compensation package that combines salary base pay plus the potential for profit sharing paid quarterly after 1 year of employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Data Architecture
- Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of a centralized data warehouse to consolidate data from various sources.
- Define and maintain the data model architecture, ensuring it supports analytical needs and business requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and integrate relevant data sources into the warehouse
- Data Orchestration
- Develop and optimize efficient ELT pipelines to ingest large volumes of structured and unstructured data into the data warehouse.
- Ensure that ELT jobs run efficiently and without error, using best practices for data pipeline management.
- Monitor data workflows to ensure data integrity, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements as needed.
- Build and Optimize Advanced Data Model for BI
- Design and implement advanced data models (e.g., star schema, snowflake schema) to support complex business intelligence queries.
- Build predictive models and business logic layers to generate actionable insights for business stakeholders.
- Work with business intelligence (BI) and analytics teams to refine models and ensure alignment with business goals.
- Performance Tuning and Scalability
- Optimize data warehouse performance to ensure fast query times, high availability, and scalability.
- Tune SQL queries, indexes, and ETL processes for optimal performance in a production environment.
- Continuously improve data pipeline efficiency and performance as the data warehouse grows and evolves.
- Data Quality, Governance, and Compliance
- Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and automated validation procedures to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
- Define and enforce data governance standards for consistency, accessibility, and security of sensitive data.
- Collaborate with data governance and compliance teams to ensure that data management practices align with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
- Leadership, Mentorship, and Collaboration
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, providing guidance on best practices, coding standards, and problem-solving.
- Act as the primary point of contact for data engineering initiatives, collaborating with stakeholders to define technical requirements.
- Advocate for a culture of continuous learning, driving innovation and technical excellence within the team.
