MAJOR FUNCTION: Supports the smooth operation of the Utilities Division by managing inventory, coordinating the flow of goods and supplies, and maintaining accurate records across multiple warehouse sites—including mobile and satellite locations. This position plays a key role in ensuring field crews have what they need to maintain essential water and wastewater services that protect public health and environmental quality.

Work is hands-on and fast-paced, involving regular use of warehouse equipment, data entry into inventory systems, and collaboration with both internal teams and external vendors.

The Utilities Division is responsible for public health and safety, as well as safeguarding the environment, by providing crucial safe water and wastewater services.  This position is part of the team that provides services necessary for human health, economic stability, and overall societal well-being. At the core of the mission of providing these services includes commitment to providing excellent customer service to our citizens, business partners, regulatory agencies, and other county divisions.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES:

Inventory & Logistics

  • Maintains accurate stock levels across all warehouse locations using a centralized tracking system.
  • Processes order requests, work orders, and inventory transactions quickly and accurately.
  • Performs cycle counts, reconciles discrepancies, and supports audits across all storage sites.
  • Adjusts inventory thresholds based on usage patterns and departmental needs.

Shipping & Receiving

  • Verifies incoming shipments against purchase orders and delivery documents.
  • Loads, unloads, and delivers materials and supplies to field crews and department locations.
  • Prepares items for distribution, ensuring timely and organized delivery.
  • Tracks inventory movement and updates system records in real time.

Operational Support

  • Operates forklifts, pallet jacks, pickup trucks, and other warehouse equipment.
  • Maintains a safe, orderly, and clean warehouse environment.
  • Follows safety protocols during equipment operation, loading, unloading, and storage.
  • Assists with setup and support for mobile warehouse operations.

Service & Communication

  • Responds promptly to internal material requests and supply needs.
  • Communicates clearly with vendors, coworkers, and field teams to coordinate deliveries and resolve issues.
  • Provides courteous, solution-oriented service during pickups and deliveries.
  • Supports material returns, adjustments, and special-order requests.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in using inventory or asset-tracking software to maintain accurate records.
  • Skilled in organizing and prioritizing warehouse tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Understands best practices for handling, storing, and transporting supplies safely.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with both internal and external contacts.
  • Maintains focus on service, accuracy, and reliability in all tasks.
  • Works well as part of a team and demonstrates initiative in day-to-day responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent.

One (1) year of experience in warehouse operations, inventory control, or related field.

Valid Florida driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the County’s Risk Management standards.

Ability to obtain forklift certification within 6 months of hire.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must obtain forklift certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • May be required to work at multiple warehouse locations, including mobile or satellite sites.
