Position: Financial Aid Loan Coordinator

Department: Student Success & Engagement

Type of Position: Full-time Hourly

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule, Hours per week: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, 40 hours per week

Opportunity for hybrid schedule: No

Starting Salary Range:  $20.47-$26.35 and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.

Position Summary: The Financial Aid Loan Coordinator supports this mission by providing accurate administration, monitoring, and reconciliation of federal student loan programs in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. The incumbent ensures proper awarding, disbursement, reconciliation, and resolution of loan-related issues while providing guidance and support to students throughout the loan lifecycle, including alternative loans.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1+ years of experience in financial aid loan processing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Higher education administration preferred
  • Experience with loan reconciliation and COD processing.
  • Familiarity with default management and compliance reporting.
  • Strong Excel and data review skills.

Position details include but are not limited to:

  • Loan Awarding and Adjustment:
    • Award, adjust, and prorate federal student loans in accordance with federal regulations, enrollment status, and institutional policies.
    • Process additional aid (add aids) and adjust loan awards accordingly to prevent over awards.
    • Monitor and manage annual and aggregate loan limits, identifying and resolving over awards and compliance issues.
    • Assist in process of private alternative loans. 
  • Loan Processing and Error Resolution:
    • Review, process, and resolve loan errors and rejects, ensuring timely correction and communication with students and internal stakeholders.
    • Perform loan reconciliation to ensure accuracy between institutional records, COD, and internal systems.
    • Review and process Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) discharge documentation and related loan adjustments. 
  • Compliance and Regulatory Activities:
    • Administer loan default-related activities, including monitoring default rates and supporting default management efforts.
    • Ensure compliance with federal requirements for Exit Counseling, including monitoring completion and providing guidance to students.
    • Stay current on federal loan regulations, guidance, and system updates affecting loan administration.
  • Student Communication and Support:
    • Communicate with students regarding loan eligibility, requirements, repayment obligations, and resolution of loan issues.
  • Recordkeeping and Collaboration:
    • Maintain accurate and complete loan records and documentation in accordance with audit and regulatory standards.
    • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve discrepancies and support overall financial aid operations.
  • Other duties as assigned:
    • Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be updated at any time at the discretion of management.
