Job Summary

AT&T is seeking an experienced and strategic IAM Director (Active Directory) to lead our team of highly skilled Active Directory and EntraID security engineers within the CSO Identity and Access Management (IAM) organization. This Director will provide vision, leadership, and operational direction for all matters concerning Active Directory and identity platforms enterprise-wide, championing a secure, resilient, and user-friendly identity experience for AT&T.

The IAM Director will work closely with Active Directory leads, engineers, and other IT security professionals serving as the bridge between technical expertise and executive leadership. The ideal candidate combines strong leadership, technical understanding, and outstanding communication skills to influence, motivate, and translate needs across all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership

    • Develop and execute the roadmap for enterprise IAM/Active Directory, ensuring alignment with AT&T’s security, compliance, and business goals.

    • Remain current on identity security best practices, threats, and compliance frameworks, drive innovation and continuous improvement within the team.

  • Team Management & Development

    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Active Directory engineers and IAM specialists.

    • Provide daily oversight and management of team members that participate in design, implementation and support roles, including team member 24/7 on-call rotation.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Executive Communication

    • Serve as the primary liaison and point of escalation between Active Directory Domain Admins & Entra ID Global Admins and AT&T leadership.

    • Translate technical risks, requirements, and project updates into clear, actionable information for non-technical stakeholders and executives.

    • Ensure strategic objectives and leadership priorities are clearly communicated and delivered to technical teams.

  • IAM Oversight & Risk Management

    • Provide oversight for the security, integrity, and operational resilience of Active Directory and connected identity systems (e.g., Microsoft Entra/Azure AD).

    • Guide teams in adopting and maintaining robust identity governance, threat detection, incident response, and GPO/PKI best practices.

    • Oversee the synchronization between on-prem and cloud environments and ensure data integrity.

    • Supervise the use of security and compliance tools for regular audits, policy enforcement, and regulatory alignment.

  • Culture of Security & Compliance

    • Promote a culture of proactive risk management, least privilege, Zero Trust, risk governance and continuous security improvement.

  • Talent Development

    • Empower teams to stay current on identity security trends, and support ongoing professional development and certifications.

    • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, supporting professional growth and knowledge sharing.

Technical Requirements

  • Management experience in IAM, Active Directory, or identity security teams within a complex enterprise environment.

  • Solid understanding of enterprise identity platforms (Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD) and their strategic business impact.

  • Familiarity with identity security best practices, compliance frameworks, and common tools (e.g., Microsoft Defender suite, Quest Software Change Auditor, PKI, GPO management).

  • Ability to assess cybersecurity risks, develop incident response plans, and guide technical staff on remediation efforts.

  • Strong skills in translating and communicating complex technical information to executive leadership and business partners.
