Role Overview:
The General Manager (GM) – Farmington Site is fully accountable for the overall performance, profitability, and day-to-day leadership of the Farmington, Connecticut operation. This role carries full site P&L responsibility with a strong operational and manufacturing focus, complemented by defined commercial responsibility. The GM will drive operating profit through excellence in production, supply chain, quality, and customer delivery while partnering closely with Sales and Engineering functions.
The Farmington site employs approximately 140 people and operates from a single facility of approximately 52,500 sq. ft. at 72 Spring Lane, Farmington, Connecticut, housing all activities including Operations, Manufacturing, Assembly, Testing, Quality, R&D, Product Design Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales, Customer Service, and Administration.
The business specializes in the design, manufacture, testing, and sale of solenoid valves, manifolds, liquid level switches, flow and pressure controls, and highly engineered customer-specific solutions serving the Life Science and Fluid Control markets.
The GM does not own Engineering but plays a key role in setting direction, prioritization, and cross-functional execution in partnership with engineering leadership.
Key Accountabilities
P&L and Financial Performance
- Full responsibility for site P&L, including revenue delivery, cost control, margin expansion, cash generation, and operating profit
- Develop and deliver annual operating plans covering production, cost, inventory, capital, and profitability
- Drive pricing discipline, commercial rigor, and contribution margin improvement in partnership with Sales
- Ensure strong financial controls, risk management, and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
Operations & Manufacturing Excellence
- Lead all manufacturing, assembly, testing, logistics, and supply chain activities to achieve best-in-class safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity
- Drive lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and capacity optimization to support growth and margin expansion
- Ensure robust production planning, inventory management, and on-time customer delivery
- Champion operational discipline, standard work, and performance management through KPIs and visual management
Commercial & Customer Focus
- Hold defined commercial responsibility, supporting sales strategy, key customer relationships, and major commercial decisions
- Partner with Sales and Customer Service to deliver an exceptional customer experience across order fulfilment, responsiveness, and quality
- Support profitable growth through new business introduction, customer-specific solutions, and operational readiness
Leadership & Organization
- Lead and develop the site leadership team across Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, HR, Finance, Sales, and Engineering interfaces
- Build a high-performance, accountable culture with clear goals, strong engagement, and visible leadership presence
- Develop talent pipelines, succession plans, and capability building aligned with future site needs
- Drive change leadership and organizational alignment as the business evolves
Engineering & New Product Introduction (Interface)
- Partner with Product Design Engineering and R&D leaders to ensure manufacturability, cost discipline, and scalability
- Support new product introduction and customer-specific engineering projects through strong cross-functional execution
- Ensure smooth transition from development to production with minimal disruption to operations
