General Summary

• The Director of Interventional Cardiovascular Services is a senior clinical and operational leader responsible for the full oversight of cardiac procedural care within a high-acuity, high-volume cardiovascular service line. This role ensures excellence in patient care delivery, safety, staff engagement, regulatory readiness, and strategic growth for invasive and non-invasive cardiac services. The director coordinates and supervises operational, clinical, and financial aspects of the Interventional Cardiology program, as guided by overall hospital philosophy, goals and objectives as well as administrative and medical policies and procedures. Specific focus is on the areas of Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
• This position is charged with leading complex interventional and electrophysiology teams across multiple suites and recovery areas, supporting service line expansion, managing advanced technologies, and aligning with hospital-wide quality and performance initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

• Works in conjunction with the AVP of Procedural Care and Anesthesia to identify organizational and departmental needs and staffing concerns, as well as areas for growth and improvement throughout Procedural Services and Phelps Health. Creates and implements plans to address these items.
• Implements strategies necessary to achieve department goals and observe outcomes. Partners with service line leaders, cardiologists, and hospital executives to expand cardiovascular offerings (e.g., EP program growth, vascular access program, new devices or procedures).
• Collaborates closely with medical directors, interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and anesthesia leadership.
• Serves as the primary point of contact for operational decision-making and escalation.
• Maintains 24/7 oversight of Cath Lab operations, including emergency STEMI response protocols, staff preparedness, and trauma/cardiac code workflows. Oversees patient throughput, triage prioritization, scheduling, and optimization of procedure room utilization.
• Continually assesses and improves departments’ performance and maintains appropriate quality control programs.
• Supervises shift managers and coordinators. Coordinates monthly meetings between Procedural Services Leadership to ensure good communication and monitor growth and need for change.
• Coaches staff to improve professional and clinical development.
• Counsels staff as appropriate in a timely manner and submits proper documentation.
• Assures that performance appraisals are completed within designated time frames.
• Interviews and selects qualified applicants.
• Coordinates with Cath Lab Educator new employee orientation and ensures competency through skill validation.
• Ensures that areas of supervision maintain a clean, safe environment.
• Ensures the department meets or exceeds all state, federal, Joint Commission, and specialty licensing/accreditation regulations and standards.
• Plays a critical role in market differentiation, referral development, and patient satisfaction initiatives.
• Supports community outreach and physician alignment efforts related to heart care.
• Contributes to capital planning, expansion projects, and technology evaluations. Initiates cost reduction strategies. Manages department within budgeted expenses.

Education

• Master’s degree in Nursing or Healthcare related field preferred. Management related Nursing or Healthcare degree preferred.

Work Experience

• > 2 years experience in functions of the department (or similar department) with one year management or supervisory experience required.

Certification/License

• Certification in specialty, preferred.
• RN License in Missouri or Compact State required.

Mental/Physical Requirements

• Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities and nearly constant walking required. Standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
