Principal Cloud Engineer

Please Note: This is a Utah-based hybrid position which will require some regular in-office days each week. Additionally, employment with BambooHR is contingent on passing both a background and credit check. 

Essential Job Duties

As a Principal Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud infrastructure to ensure scalability, reliability, and security. You will lead a team of cloud engineers and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop and execute cloud strategies aligned with business objectives. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in cloud technologies, strong leadership skills, and a passion for driving innovation.

You will:

• Design Cloud Infrastructure: Design highly scalable, fault-tolerant cloud infrastructure solutions that meet the needs of our growing platform.
• Develop architecture blueprints and roadmaps for cloud services and components.
• Implement Cloud Solutions: Lead the implementation of cloud infrastructure projects, including provisioning, configuration, and optimization of cloud resources.
• Ensure adherence to best practices for security, performance, and cost optimization.
• Manage Cloud Platforms: Oversee the day-to-day operations of our cloud platforms, ensuring reliability, availability, and performance. Implement monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and address issues.
• Lead Cloud Engineering Team: Mentor and guide a team of cloud engineers, providing technical leadership and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
• Set clear objectives, provide regular feedback, and support career development.
• Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with software engineering, DevOps, and product teams to integrate cloud infrastructure requirements into development processes.
• Collaborate on the design and implementation of scalable, microservices-based architectures.
• Evaluate and Adopt New Technologies: Stay abreast of emerging cloud technologies and industry trends. Evaluate new tools and technologies to enhance our cloud infrastructure and drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure Security and Compliance: Implement security best practices and compliance controls to protect sensitive data and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Conduct regular security assessments and audits

What You Need to Get the Job Done

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field years of experience in designing, building, and managing cloud infrastructure at scale.
• 5+ years of deep expertise in cloud platform AWS.
• Proven experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or Go.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect are a plus
• Demonstrated use of utilizing AI tools in daily work activities to accelerate tasks, documents, summaries, and other manual steps.
• Demonstrated ability to understand AI-based systems and support other teams developing these tools.
• Demonstrated ability to implement systems or sub-systems that use AI to simplify or accelerate cloud infrastructure management.
