Job Summary/Basic Function:
The position reports to the Director of Career Services, and assists in providing strategic direction and leadership to develop and implement programming that integrates career readiness and advancement into the student experience through curricular and co-curricular activities.
The assistant director offers individual career coaching and helps prepare students for a job in the business industry. They will review and revise resumes, assist with building LinkedIn profiles, provide internship and job search strategies, and conduct mock interviews. Outside of one-on-one student appointments, this individual will present workshops on these same professional development topics to classes and student organizations. They will also contribute to developing and executing career programs, workshops, and events.
The assistant director will provide leadership and assistance with data collection, management, reporting, and integrating career development in the curriculum. The position also involves driving student engagement with Career Services and enhancing student participation in events and workshops. Through these engagements, this role is responsible for assisting with developing positive relationships with students, employers, faculty, staff, and alumni.
This role supervises and supports the career coaching staff (1-3 individuals) responsible for mentorship, scheduling, professional development, performance reviews, etc.

Level Scope:
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures. Typically hold a Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree and 5 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Student Coaching and Career Education Coordination
- The Assistant Director of Career Services provides coaching and education to students on career and graduate school planning, job and internship search strategies, and professional skill development through in-person and online appointments, group workshops, embedded content into courses, and presentations.
- Prepares students for the workplace by sharing industry-aligned, updated advice on cover letters, resumes, LinkedIn, job and internship search strategies, interview techniques, networking, etc.
- Presents career readiness workshops independently, to business classes, and to relevant student organizations.

Program and Event Development and Career Education Integration
- The Assistant Director is responsible for developing and implementing programming to integrate career readiness and advancement into the student experience through curricular and co-curricular activities. They support and equip faculty, advisors, and supervisors of student employees with career readiness skills, resources, tools, and best practices.
- Oversees career education systems and services, career related communications and marketing, and assessment of student career outcomes, effectiveness, research, and program evaluation.
- Works toward greater integration of career education into student experience, for example through faculty partnerships.
- Introduces students to our professional business community through a variety of programs and events, including career fairs and workshops. Design and lead multiple career-related events and programs and manage all event logistics.
- Assists with planning and managing annual programming including career fairs, guest speakers, mock interviews and class presentations.
