About the role

As a Senior R&D Engineer at Cuberg, you'll play a critical role in developing and commercializing next-generation lithium metal batteries for electric mobility, with a focus on boosting energy density and power output. You'll be working within Northvolt's Advanced Technology Center in Silicon Valley, collaborating with a team of highly skilled engineers and researchers to drive innovation and accelerate the time-to-market of Cuberg's groundbreaking battery technology. This technology utilizes a non-flammable liquid electrolyte combined with a lithium metal anode to create batteries that are fully compatible with existing lithium-ion manufacturing infrastructure. Cuberg's battery products have been validated by the U.S. Department of Energy and offer generational improvements in electric vehicle and aircraft performance, including longer ranges, greater payloads, and lower cost of ownership. Responsibilities

  • Lead research and development projects focused on innovation and commercialization of lithium metal batteries.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to launch ground-breaking products and technologies.
  • Design and execute experiments with a focus on generating new IP and publishing high-profile papers.
  • Contribute to the development of state-of-the-art manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical expertise for pilot and production scale-up projects.
  • Oversee and mentor a team of R&D engineers and technicians.
  • Coordinate with external partners, suppliers, and academic institutions to drive rapid progress.

Requirements

  • PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent field.
  • At least 5 years of industry experience in battery research, development, or engineering.
  • Experience with advanced battery materials, including lithium metal anodes, solid-state electrolytes, and cathodes.
  • A solid understanding of battery electrochemistry, materials characterization, and performance testing.
  • Experience in scale-up and pilot manufacturing processes.
  • Strong background in project management, including planning, budgeting, and execution.
  • Excellent communication and team-building skills.

Benefits

The San Francisco / Bay Area cash compensation (base + bonus) range for this full-time position is $127,000 - $157,000 + equity + benefits.
