Automation & Controls Engineer

Jabil is seeking an experienced Automation & Controls Engineer to work in Auburn Hills, MI.
How will you make an impact? As the Automation & Controls Engineer you will perform complex activities to support assembly manufacturing through the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of manufacturing processes and supporting documentation. You will also lead resolution of manufacturing issues between customers and suppliers.
What will you do?
Support overall automated manufacturing process development including PLC Ladder Logic programming and debug; Manufacturing line mechanical repair and improvements; Equipment identification and selection; and Sensor technology and machine vision programming
Support line balancing activities, including structuring of internal bill of materials in alignment with manufacturing processes
Implement changes to continuously improve quality and process efficiencies
Lead team members in creation and maintenance of documentation required to support the production process including Process flow diagrams; Procedures, work instructions, and visual aids; Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA)
Author and execute equipment qualifications (IQ, OQ)
Create programs for various manufacturing equipment such as PLC, Robotic and specific assembly equipment operating systems
Review and analyze key metrics
Provide training and coaching to facilitate integration of newly hired Process Engineers or Process Engineer Technicians
Conduct thorough root cause analysis and drives corrective action, including verification, in response to product quality problems or process failures
Coordinate with customers, suppliers and internal staff to resolve manufacturing-related issues
Prepare manufacturing quotes and new product quoting by reviewing customer-supplied data creating assumptions related to establishing a production process and estimating product run rates
Complete Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and or Design For Assembly (DFA) activities
Assess actual performance to quoted rates and take action to minimize gaps
Provide on-call support to resolve engineering related issues arising beyond normal business hours
Other duties as they may be assigned.
How will you get here?
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering
Experience:
At least 4 years of related work experience working in an Automation Manufacturing Engineering environment with OR combination of education and work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma tools for problem solving, including statistical methods, PFMEA, root cause analysis and their application to a manufacturing process
Knowledge of surface mount technology assembly processes, methods, and equipment and/or high-level assembly experience
Knowledge of quoting / DFM processes, process design, tooling design, or equipment programming
Knowledge in ISO 9001 and/or ISO 13485 standards
Strong analytical, interpretive, and problem-solving skills
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
