International Market Insights Manager

As the Market Insights & Competition Manager for International, you will be a part of a small and growing International Marketing Team that is dedicated to scaling Toast’s International footprint. This role will give you the opportunity to work in a startup-like environment with the backing of an established, publicly traded company. As such, you are a builder with an entrepreneurial mindset who isn’t afraid to roll up your sleeves to manage a wide range of responsibilities, prioritize ruthlessly to maximize impact, and continuously test and learn to refine your strategies.
Reporting to the Director of International Product Marketing, you will partner closely with the US based Market Insights team while working collaboratively with the Product, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success teams in each region to conduct quantitative and qualitative market and competitive research to inform our international go-to-market (GTM) strategies and future market expansion plans. You will also partner closely with Sales and Sales Enablement to identify competitive intelligence and enablement plays that further accelerate our international growth.
About this roll* (Responsibilities)
- Lead a multi-faceted “Win/Loss” program (including competitive and win/loss analyses) to be the expert on areas of strength and opportunity for Toast’s international business (including managing internal data, external vendor partnerships and sales enablement to activate insights)
- Partner closely with the product, sales, and marketing to develop strategic research designed to uncover insights into buyer needs, the technology landscape and market opportunities
- Collaborate across diverse teams to provide data-driven insights and recommendations to influence company segmentation strategy, product roadmap and go-to-market strategy, including sales territory mapping and optimization through internal and external data
- Lead our international competitive research programs to develop a deep understanding of our competitors’ product and GTM strategy to inform strategic decisions across product, marketing, sales and more
- Leverage deep competitive intelligence insights to build assets for sales reps (e.g., battlecards) and lead targeted sales training and competitive plays
- Socialize insights through storytelling and collaborate with marketing, product, and insights teams across the organization to build Toast’s collective knowledge
- Build, test, and deploy surveys from the ground up (including questionnaire design, survey programming, sampling parameters, and data cleaning)
- Leverage various data sources (Salesforce, Looker, etc.) and be able to extract, transform, and build analyses and data visualizations to help answer critical questions that inform our marketing and sales strategies
Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)
- Proven experience in a fast-paced environment that can span market research, product marketing, product management, operational roles, finance, sales or strategy consulting.
- Experience with quantitative and qualitative research, including the ability to size the research requirements to the business need and synthesize findings to inform strategic decision making
- Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills; ability to build strong, compelling storylines and recommendations that are deeply evidenced in both quantitative and qualitative research to move leadership to action
- Strong analytical skills and experience with primary market research (both quantitative and qualitative), survey design, data analysis and marketing analytics tools and techniques
- Experience with manipulating large, dirty, and disparate datasets
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel (Google Sheets) & Powerpoint (Google Slides)
- Experience with developing surveys via Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, or similar with familiarity of complex survey logic, piping, and dynamic fields
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple project timelines, internal partners, external partners, and deadlines
- Highly collaborative, with experience working across diverse teams to drive results
- Enthusiasm, and a willingness to explore, grow, and learn
