Homestead Gardens is looking for a Farm & Pet Category Manager & Department Manager to oversee purchasing, inventory, and daily operations for our Farm & Pet retail department. 

What You’ll Do:

Category Management & Buying

• Source and purchase premium pet nutrition, pet care products, toys, and farm supplies.
• Attend industry trade shows and visit pet stores and garden centers to stay ahead of trends.
• Analyze sales data to develop product assortments, pricing strategies, and promotions.
• Maintain optimal inventory levels and adjust pricing to ensure timely sell-through of seasonal items.
• Manage vendor relationships, negotiate pricing, and coordinate deliveries.
• Work with the Marketing Team to develop advertising, promotions, and workshops.
• Oversee the Farm & Pet sales budget to maximize profitability.

Department Management & Operations

• Lead and supervise Farm & Pet department staff, ensuring top-tier customer service and efficient operations.
• Train and develop team members on product knowledge, sales techniques, and merchandising standards.
• Oversee daily department operations, including inventory control, stocking, and store presentation.
• Ensure a clean, organized, and visually appealing sales floor that enhances the customer experience.
• Collaborate with store leadership to drive department goals and initiatives.
• Address customer inquiries, concerns, and special orders to ensure satisfaction.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For:

• Strong knowledge of large and small animal nutrition, pet care, and farm products.
• Experience in buying, inventory management, retail operations, and team leadership.
• Excellent negotiation and vendor relationship skills.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Tech-savvy with a willingness to learn new systems.
• Effective communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to travel for industry events and adapt to seasonal demands.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Business, or a related field preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in a retail pet store, animal-related industry, or retail management.
