The Chief of Staff / Executive Director of the Project Management Office (PMO) will serve as a strategic advisor and operational partner to the Enterprise CIO and executive leadership team. This role is pivotal in driving key initiatives, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring the successful execution of the organization's strategic goals.
This newly created position will support the Enterprise CIO in managing the IT department’s strategic initiatives and administrative functions. This role involves coordinating cross-functional projects, managing a combined PMO organization, ensuring effective communication within the Enterprise IT departments, and assisting in the development and implementation of IT strategies.
Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the CIO and executive team to develop and implement strategic initiatives and long-term plans.
Budget Management: In collaboration with the OIT and DTS (Enterprise IT) budget managers, prepare and monitor strategic IT budgets for the joint IT organization.
Risk Management: Evaluate potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the organization's stability and growth.
Project Management: Oversee the PMO, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of project managers and administrative staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
Performance Monitoring: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and monitor progress, providing regular updates to the executive team.
Operational Support: Provide direct support to the CIO, performing research, creating reports and presentations, and coordinating communications.
Stakeholder Management: Act as a liaison between the executive team and other departments, ensuring clear communication and alignment on organizational goals.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business/communications, or technology related fields
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, operations, or a similar role. Minimum 5 years’ experience in an IT organization, preferably in a management role.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and guide a diverse team.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives that align with organizational goals.
- Project Management: Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools, with a track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Analytical: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Stakeholder Management: Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Time Management: Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing business needs and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in business administration or related fields
Work Location
Due to the senior-level responsibilities of this role, this is a hybrid position but will need to be based in Knoxville, Tennessee. Relocation assistance will be provided.
Compensation and Benefits
UT market range: MR20
- Anticipated hiring range: $120,500-$179,500
