Job Description Summary

Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Advising, the Associate Director is a member of the Wharton Undergraduate Division’s advising team which supports undergraduate students with their intellectual, personal and professional development. The Associate Director will advise students through their four years, helping them make informed decisions about their educational plans and goals that are consistent with their interests, abilities, and values. The Associate Director also collaborates with others within the Undergraduate Division to establish and develop academic support programs and initiatives that serve undergraduate advisees.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advise and support Wharton students regarding academic program planning and options. Support students in all aspects of academic careers and address emotional, social, financial, or other difficulties they may experience. Develop and provide transformative, in-depth, developmental advising initiatives. Collaborate with other advisors to maintain and develop advising tools and other planning aids for students. (50%)
  • Participate in weekly meetings to discuss divisional policies and procedures and to review current issues and cases. Serve on internal committees concerned with recruitment, admissions, orientation, petitions, career exploration, and graduation audits as requested.  (25%)
  • Advise Wharton students studying abroad, as well as incoming exchange students from business exchange partners. Collaborate with Penn Abroad advisors and resources to guide students through the study abroad application process. (15%)
  • Attend academic conferences and represent the Wharton Undergraduate Division at events that advance the mission and objectives of the department. Work with Wharton departments and other organizations within the University as needed. (5%)
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. (5%)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's Degree in higher education, student affairs administration, or related field is strongly preferred. Experience with academic advising and working with a diverse college population is preferred. Must have proven ability to work both independently and collaborativ
