Reporting to the Lead Engineer, you will undertake the technical delivery of projects, guiding and supporting the Control, Automation & Instrumentation Engineering Team to ensure associated Consultancies, Service Providers and Vendors provide design services in line with ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) specifications, rules and company standards. Assisting the Lead Engineer with resource management, you will ensure the effective deployment of Control, Automation & Instrumentation Engineering support is optimised for pipelined projects.
Supporting with project delivery, design specification and technical governance relating to the Control, Automation & Instrumentation design of large-scale Onshore Wind, Solar PV and Energy Storage projects incorporating new technologies, your primary focus will be upon the specification and design of SCADA, PLC systems, Communications, Cyber Security, Control & Instrumentation and other control systems associated with renewable energy projects.
You will provide generation and review of design proposals, the management and supervision of Consultants and Subcontractors, user requirements definition of balance of plant control systems, infrastructure and other similar interfaces and scopes.
Working as part of the Onshore Projects & Construction Project Delivery Team, you may be required to be site based during the construction phase of projects within the UK.
What you’ll be doing
Deputising for the Lead Engineer as required to support the business in their absence, you will assist with the co-ordination and planning of Control, Automation & Instrumentation Engineering to meet the requirements of the UK business and to support project delivery requirements across New Business, Development, Design and Construction Delivery.
Building relationships with, and liaising with the wider Global Technical Services department to ensure coordination and collaboration of Control, Automation & Instrumentation Engineering resources and implementation of best practice for activities delivered across the UK Engineering team, you will participate with, promote and manage positive Health & Safety behaviours and competencies within the team to ensure high standards are achieved and maintained.
Assisting the Lead Engineer with coaching and mentoring of the team, technical training activities and process management for developing, designing and constructing renewable energy assets, from initial application through to commissioning and testing, you will support identification and technical assessment of suitable technologies (software/hardware) and their optimisation to achieve safe, reliable and cost effective design and operation of renewable energy assets.
Managing the delivery of assigned projects, developing technical schedules for inclusion within design, turbine and infrastructure contracts, you will be involved in the technical review of tenders for these contracts, their evaluation and recommendation of the preferred supplier.
What you’ll bring
Educated to degree standard in Electrical Engineering or a related subject, you will possess experience in supporting development, construction and operation phases of power generation projects.
With experience of Renewables/Power Generation industry, you will hold good working knowledge of industry standards, design and installation codes of practice and regulations.
With excellent working knowledge of industrial communication standards, protocols, SCADA and control and protection systems, you will possess good working knowledge of cyber security issues associated with the OT environment, with an understanding of 62443, NIS and similar.
Health & Safety management skills (NEBOSH preferred) and proven experience of site staff supervision are required.
