General Description and Classification Standards
The Traffic Engineer Sr. will manage engineering projects, which includes providing professional/technical engineering, engineering design and review, writing standards, survey work, and inspections. Complete and oversee a variety of assignments in one or more specialized areas of transportation systems and programs involving research, planning, design, technology, materials, construction, traffic safety, traffic operations and maintenance.
Supervision Received
Perform work under general supervision with review and advice from manager or a senior level professional.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Manages the maintenance of traffic control devices through subordinates.
• Conducts traffic studies to determine the safety and appropriateness of traffic control devices on the roadway and at intersections.
• Processes traffic data collected in support of traffic studies.
• Investigates traffic problems and recommend methods to improve traffic flow and safety.
• Uses technology to monitor traffic flow and conditions.
• Creates and/or reviews traffic
• Assists in preparing and/or approving designs for Public Services/Engineering projects in accordance with general engineering principles and City standards.
• construction inspections, review and approve contractor pay requests, review and process construction change orders.
• Performs other duties as assigned Decision Making Follow standardized policies and procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks. Leadership Provided Provide guidance and training as required to traffic service technicians, interns, temporary employees, etc.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Working knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices; • working knowledge of drafting, working knowledge of public works design and construction;
• knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Control Devices (MUTCD);
• knowledge of the Microsoft software package;
• ability to instruct others in the operation and use of engineering software;
• ability to direct the work of others;
• ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other divisions, and the public;
• ability to follow written and oral instructions;
• ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
• ability to read, interpret and produce maps, engineering drawings and graphics from engineering software.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
2. One year of experience in Traffic and/or Transportation engineering.
Preferred Education & Experience
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and 3 years' of experience in Traffic and/or Transportation engineering EIT certification
Preferred Licensures and Certifications Georgia Driver’s license EIT certification
