Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Senior Director of Development, Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine - Boca Raton, FL.

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a highly experienced fundraising leader to develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan for the Schmidt College of Medicine, cultivate major donor relationships, and ensure that the College meets its fundraising goals through various initiatives such as comprehensive campaigns, annual giving, and planned giving. This position will serve as a key strategic advisor to the dean and senior leadership of the College of Medicine on fundraising matters.

The Schmidt College of Medicine is one of 158 accredited medical schools in the U.S. and the only such school in Palm Beach County. With more than 95 full- and part-time faculty and more than 1,300 affiliate faculty, the college matriculates up to 80 medical students annually with plans for future expansion.

The College’s strength lies in its exceptional faculty, vibrant medical and research communities, and enriching medical and graduate student experiences. It is recognized nationally for its innovative curricula, which offer a distinctive, personalized educational experience for medical students and graduate students.  To further the University’s commitment to increasing much-needed medical residency positions in the region, the College established its Graduate Medical Education (GME) Consortium, partnering with five hospitals in Palm Beach County: Bethesda Hospital East, Boca Raton Regional Hospital, and three Tenet HealthCare facilities (Delray Medical Center, St. Mary’s Medical Center, and West Boca Raton Medical Center). Since then, two additional Tenet HealthCare facilities have joined the Consortium (Good Samaritan Medical Center and Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center). The College now offers ten programs in the following specialties and subspecialties: Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Neurology, Cardiology, Hospice and Palliative Care, Geriatrics, Vascular Surgery, and Pulmonary Disease & Critical Care Medicine.

The College’s growing team of world-class biomedical researchers is dedicated to advancing the understanding of basic biological mechanisms and to developing new strategies to improve the prediction, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of common conditions.  Areas of focus are neurodegenerative disorders, aging, addiction, cancer, genomics, epigenetics, cardiovascular disease, lens development, macular degeneration, and infectious and parasitic diseases. Integrating scientific research with medical education is a top priority, ensuring that future physicians can address patients’ individual needs.

Managed by FAU’s Schmidt College of Medicine, the Florida Atlantic University Medical Group is a faculty practice offering comprehensive adult primary care services, from preventive medicine to chronic condition management, fostering a patient-centered learning health care system. The Marcus Institute of Integrative Health provides evidence-based clinical services with a holistic approach, specializing in integrative pain management, precision image-guided therapies, and mental health support.

In January 2023, Florida Atlantic University and Broward Health announced a partnership to formally develop academic medicine in Broward County, which carries opportunities to collaborate in the areas of education, clinical training and practice, health services administration, and research.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement comprehensive cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for individual major and principal gift prospects assigned.  Work both independently and in concert with Institutional Advancement colleagues to implement strategies leading to direct solicitation of gifts of $100,000 and more.

• Build a strong pipeline of alumni and other prospects to expand the portfolio of qualified prospects for gifts of $100,000 and more.

• Develop solicitation and closure strategies of major gifts aligned with the College of Medicine and University fundraising priorities and campaigns, measured against the attainment of personal metrics associated with the position.
