YOUR IMPACT
Own your opportunity to support national defense. Your work will help keep critical operations secure and connected across the global enterprise directly, contributing to a mission that protects our nation every day.
CIS is growing, and we invite both our experienced incumbents and new team members to be part of what’s next. Incumbents bring invaluable mission insight, while new talent adds fresh ideas and energy. Together, we’ll strengthen continuity and drive the next generation of innovation.
MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
As an F5 Network Engineer supporting CIS, you will design, secure, and sustain advanced application delivery and traffic management services across multiple enterprise networks. You will maintain highly available F5 load balancing environments, enforce secure configuration baselines, and deliver resilient access to mission critical applications. Your expertise directly enhances network performance, strengthens cybersecurity posture, and ensures the reliable delivery of core IT capabilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administer, configure, and optimize F5 BIG-IP platforms including LTM, GTM/DNS, ASM, APM, and VIPRION/VE components to support scalable and resilient application delivery
- Develop and tune traffic management profiles, SSL/TLS offload configurations, iRules/iApps, and advanced routing policies to ensure consistent service performance
- Monitor health, performance, and capacity of F5 appliances and virtual editions, proactively identifying opportunities to enhance throughput, resilience, and efficiency
- Implement secure configuration baselines, system hardening, and STIG aligned controls across all F5 devices and supporting infrastructure
- Execute timely patching, firmware updates, and security fixes for F5 platforms through approved deployment and compliance technologies
- Review weekly compliance and vulnerability scan results, identify noncompliant configurations, determine root causes, and drive remediation actions
- Track and apply approved security directives, task orders, and vulnerability notifications affecting load balancers, proxies, SSL/TLS services, and related network security functions
- Provide Tier 3 escalation support for complex application delivery issues including SSL negotiation, traffic flow, availability failures, and performance bottlenecks
- Collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, networking, and operations teams to integrate new applications, validate secure designs, and support accreditation activities
- Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, patch schedules, certificates, iRules, and operational procedures to support audit readiness and change control
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
- EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field, 12+ years of relevant IT experience in lieu of a degree
- CERTIFICATION: Meet DoD 8140 Information Assurance Workforce certification requirements (e.g. Security+ CE, etc.)
- ADDITIONAL REQUIRED CERTIFICATION: Vendor-Specific (e.g. DDI certifications)
- CLEARANCE: Active TS/SCI clearance with a favorable polygraph
- Hands-on experience administering and supporting F5 BIG-IP platforms in an enterprise environment (LTM, GTM/DNS, ASM, APM)
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, SSL/TLS, load balancing methodologies, traffic management concepts, and secure network design principles
- Experience with patch management, system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and compliance reporting for network infrastructure or security appliances
- Strong analytical, documentation, and cross team communication skills
