About the role

The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM is one of Europe's most important independent research institutes in the fields of "Shaping and Functional Materials" and "Adhesive Bonding Technology and Surfaces". The focus is on research and development work with the aim of providing our customers with reliable and application-oriented solutions. Products and technologies are primarily aimed at sectors that are particularly important for future viability: aviation, automotive, energy technology, maritime technologies, medical technology and life sciences. Around 700 highly qualified employees work together on specific projects and topics to realize this task.

 

The "Coating Technology" department has over 30 employees, including scientists, technicians and engineers, working on various topics relating to the development and application of coating systems. Current topics include the digitalization and automation of coating technology tasks, the development of special functional coating systems for niche applications, the development and qualification of test methods and application technology services. Examples of functional coating systems include anti-ice coatings, anti-fouling coatings for maritime applications (for which we operate a storage station on Helgoland), permeation barriers (e.g. against hydrogen), coatings for reducing fluid friction and many more.

   

The Fraunhofer IFAM is looking for a scientific employee / project manager in the field of automation and coating technology at the Bremen site as soon as possible.

 

What you will do

  • Management of industry-funded and publicly funded projects, i.e. development of the research concept, planning and coordination of resources
  • Assumption of scientific responsibility for the pilot plant on digitized and automated surface technology including painting
  • Planning and carrying out the experimental work together with a team of scientists and technicians
  • Documenting the results and presenting them to customers and partners
  • The tasks also include the acquisition of the relevant funding and the publication of results in specialist journals or at relevant conferences and congresses.

 

What you bring to the table

  • University degree in process engineering, mechanical engineering or comparable field of study
  • Knowledge of automation, control technology, robot programming is an advantage
  • You are highly motivated to familiarize yourself with new topics.
  • You have a keen interest in the further development of technologies.
  • You are a team player and have excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • You show a high degree of initiative, assertiveness and commitment.
  • You work independently, in a structured and precise manner.
  • You are confident and skillful in dealing with customers.
  • Very good written and spoken English skills round off your profile.
  • You are familiar with MS Office applications.

  • The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position is initially limited to three years and can also be filled part-time.
