Child and Special Needs Specialist Temporary Assignment

Description

In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Milton, the Department of Children and Families deployed staff to impacted counties to assist individuals within 48 hours of landfall.  This help has been extended and New Horizons of the Treasure Coast together with DCF will continue to provide help to the following counties:

· Martin

· Okeechobee

· St. Lucie 

Within the positions needed for this 8-month temporary assignment, Child and Special Needs Specialists are needed.

Duties:

1. Provides crisis counseling services for children and adolescents
2. Provides parent education
3. provides supportive family services focused on grief and loss
4. Promotes resilience and successful coping techniques using individual, group, and family evidence-based strategies 
5. Provides culturally sensitive and age appropriate education and training about the effects of trauma on young children and their families
6. Develops team approaches for child, youth and young adult programming on reactions to disasters
7. Creates a safe environments and classroom communities and healthy responses to life-changing events. 

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree: bachelor's degree in a related field, such as psychology or social work with 2 years of experience. 
• Master's degree: A master's degree in a related field, such as psychology or social work with a year experience. 

Crisis intervention specialists help people who are dealing with grief, acute crises, and high-risk interventions. Compassion and patience are essential for this role
